Should you sell in 2026? Just like in 2025, only sell if you loose your job, you can't handle the mortgage renewal payments, the drive to work is robbing you of life or your house is just too small. Other than that...stay put! The biggest thing going on in 2026 is mortgage renewals and this will force people to sell. Because the Bank of Canada seems to have glued itself to is current rate, you can't count on any kind of rate decrease this year. So I suspect all real estate sales will slow down even more than last year unless you simply have to sell. One good point I noted in the economic forecast is apartment condos, which have suffered steep declines in values, may suffer declines that won't be quite as severe in 2026. Still, demand is low for housing and there are over 20,000 housing units coming on the market in 2026. So we are still going to get hit with lower home prices this year. Great for buyers... there just doesn't seem to be very many of them right now.
